Gadgets like smartphones and tablets have made our lives easier, but we cannot disagree with the fact that more and more children are getting addicted to these devices.
As parents, we often complain about our child’s addiction to mobile screens. This is surely damaging their physical and mental health but somehow it becomes quite challenging to stop them from using these gadgets.
Here are some tips to prevent them from getting addicted to screens.
Set a good role model
Children tend to emulate their parents. Don’t expect your children to give up their devices if you can’t do the same. If they see you reading a book, they are more likely to repeat your actions. And if they see you watching television, they will also repeat the same. At the very least, try and limit Try and limit the time you spend on mobiles/ laptops; when in the vicinity of your child.
Be Strict With Rules

Spend more time with your little ones. Kids who are found to be lonely are more likely to look for companionship in mobiles/computers. Do creative activities with your children. Bake a cake or paint together. It will help you bond with your child and keep them away from the virtual world.
Create a Tech-Free Zone at home
From the dining table at dinner time to the living room, certain areas of the house should be marked as ‘gadget-free’. The whole family is not allowed to use any gadgets at these places. This will ensure your child understands the importance of family and other activities in relation to gadgets.
Engage in other non-digital activities
It is sometimes important to shift your kid away from the virtual world and engage them in more realistic activities. Also, encourage them in activities outside the house. You could decide to take your child to a picnic, play outdoor games, and discuss their school work or engage them in craft and art.
Praise your child’s Efforts
Finally, it is very important to praise your child’s efforts when he/she makes the effort to prioritize other activities over screen time, of their own accord. Praising positive behavior will encourage your child to continue doing it!
