Introduction

The ability to accurately identify shapes is a foundational skill, and it is quite rewarding for children because their world is full of shapes.

Understanding shapes will enable your child to be more in tune with the world around them and see the connections between objects, as well as being better able to appreciate artistic works.
So here we are with some activities which your child will love to perform.

So let the fun begin!

Material Required

  • Craft paper for shape cutouts
  • Objects of different shapes

Steps

1

Hold up a circle flashcard and say 'circle'.

Ask your child to repeat the word 'circle'.

Let your child trace around the edge of the circle with his fingers.

Ask your child to look for a similar shape to match it.

Show your child different objects that are circular in shape - A plate, a clock, a button, a biscuit, a pizza, a ball, a bowl etc.

Repeat the activity for the ’square’ shape, help your child describe the shape.

Let your child touch the corners and run his/her fingers around the four sides and say, ’A square has four equal sides and four corners.’

Repeat this activity with the rest of the shapes.
