Introduction

Here is an activity to enhance the creative skills of your child and at the same time get him/her to memorize the rhyme.

Material Required

  • The Grand Old Duke Of York Activity Mat
  • The Grand Old Duke Of York’ Activity Cutouts
  • Potato
  • Red Paint
  • Bowl/Tray
  • Safety Scissors
  • Glue

Steps

Take ’The Grand Old Duke Of York’ Activity Sheet and Activity Mat.

Place the Activity Mat on the floor or a table.
Help your child to read the rhyme.
Sing or recite the rhyme a few times with your child.

Now, Take the Activity Sheet. Cut along the dotted lines to get separate soldier faces.

Carve a cross into a small-sized half-cut potato to make a stamp for the soldier’s uniform.

Put some red paint in a bowl or a tray.
Let your child dip the craved side of the potato in the red paint and stamp all around the hill.

After the red paint dries help your child to glue the faces on the stamps to complete the artwork.
Ask your child to count the number of soldiers on the worksheet.
Put the poster up on one of the walls.
